If you choose one of our cycling tours Transylvania, Saxonland is a must. It’s a fairy place which grabs you in a second. We will cycle through beautiful valleys, rolling hills, chilly forests. Villages of gingerbread houses, fortified churches rest on our route. The Transylvanian Saxon Heritage Trail is one of Romania’s most important touristic attractions, where you can admire the remains of great cultures. Traditional guesthouses, local food and people’s hospitality are one-of-a-kind. Take a cycling tour Transylvania with us and discover Transylvania’s most romantic landscape: Saxonland.

D1. Arrival and transfer to Alma Vii

After a short walk in Cluj historical center, we make a transfer to our first Saxon village, Alma Vii

D2. Alma Vii – Richis 35 km

We start our day climbing to the church and visiting a couple, who are cărbunari, professional charcoal producers. After a short climb and descent through the forest, we will arrive in Mosna and meet a local ecological farmer, where we will serve our lunch. We’ll continue our way through Nemsa to Richis.

D3. Richis – Malancrav 37 km

We start our ride with a smooth downhill to Biertan where we can discover one of the best-preserved fortified churches, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving Biertan and Copsa Mare, our ride continues through pleasant countryside and into a beautiful forest. Our last village is Malancrav, whose fortified church has the most well-preserved mural paintings. The largest Saxon community in Transylvania lives here as well.

D4. Malancrav – Sighisoara 36 km cycling tours transylvania

The first village today is Floresti from which we’ll continue through a bucolic valley to Cris, home of the Bethlen castle, one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Transylvania. Today we’ll have a couple of climbs and downhills, but concentrating on the beauty will carry you through. The Breite Ancient Oak Tree Reserve offers a spectacular ride among centuries–old  oaks. After a small, technical downhill we get to Sighisoara, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful and well-preserved inhabited citadels in Europe, and an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

D5. Sighisoara – Viscri 40 km

Leaving Sighisoara we will cross a long and scenic meadow, at the base of a forest. Crossing the forest and the village we’ll continue our way via bike trail till Viscri. Here we’ll visit a blacksmith that supplies much of the iron and steel work for his village, as well as another UNESCO-protected fortified church.

D6. Viscri – Transfer to Cluj and departure

Transfer back to Cluj including an optional visit of Salina Turda, a breathtaking salt mine. If you didn’t have a chance when you arrived, take some time to explore this unofficial capital of Transylvania that shares both Romanian and Hungarian traditions before your leave for your next destination.  Your guide will be happy to advise you on the next step of your journey.
